After 67 years without much change the new 2020 Land Rover Defender has finally arrived, packing retro style and new tech. Replacing an iconic car is always a daunting task, and Land Rover were facing making a new Defender that was never going to please everyone. Whilst you may or may not agree with the styling choices, the end result is a new, very capable Defender that is essentially a Range Rover underneath.
The platform is called the D7x and uses an all-aluminum chassis, which Land Rover claims makes the new Defender the stiffest SUV ever made. The full-time four-wheel-drive system is complemented by independent suspension on all four corners, active locking rear differential and manually locking center differential. Electronically adjustable suspension enables the Defenders 8.5 inches of ground clearance to be increased up to 11.5 inches.
