Lotus have brought to life a defunct Can-Am project form 1970 and transformed it into an ultra-exclusive track car. Known as the Type 66, the original car never made it past the paper stage, forever lost as a few sketches until now. Penned by Formula 1 designer Geoff Ferris, the new Type 66 has undergone some modernisation with lots of CFD aero computations to improve efficiency and downforce.
Powered by an old-school pushrod V8 developing 830 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque, the Type 66 has a sequential gearbox with an anti-stall system, electric power steering system and ABS. It can generate more than 800kg of downforce at speed and match the lap times of any modern GT3 race car.
