McLaren’s oft forgotten GT has been replaced, everybody, meet the nearly identical GTS. The original GT was launched four years ago and was positioned as a grand tourer for McLaren’s line-up of supercars. It never quite lived up to being a true GT car, but it did manage to be very capable on the road. Now, in what can safely be called a facelift, the GTS has arrived to update things a bit.
At its hearts lies the M840TE 4.0L twin turbocharged V8 engine that has been tweaked with modified combustion phasing and ignition timing to deliver 626 hp and 465 lb-ft. That’s a 14 hp uplift in power over the GT. Built around the same MonoCell II-T carbonfibre monocoque, the GTS features double-wishbone suspension with continuously variable, twin-valve hydraulic dampers on all four corners. Carbon ceramic brakes come as standard, and the forged wheels are all new with a 10-spoke ‘Turbine’ design.
