Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division are set to race the I-Pace in the eTrophy Formula E support series next year. The eTrophy events will run before every Formula E round and feature around 20 cars, all electric, to compete on race circuits around the world. The eTrophy version of the Jaguar I-Pace utilises 4 electric motors with one at each wheel, all supplied by a 90kWh lithium-ion battery. In order to prepare the car for racing, SVO has fitted a roll-cage, fixed rear wing, diffuser and race suspension.
Gerd Mäuser, Chairman, Jaguar Racing, said: “Jaguar returned to racing in 2016 with the mission ‘Race to Innovate’. With the launch of the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY we have strengthened our commitment to battery electric vehicles, international motorsport and Formula E. As a British team, we are proud to announce today the launch of the world’s first production battery electric vehicle championship.”
