The 2006 Thunder edition Holden SS Ute was the second version to be released and available only for the SS models. Extras in the Thunder pack included 18-inch alloy wheels from the Monaro CV8-R special edition, hard tonneau cover for the rear tray with molded aero shape and red brake calipers.
At the heart of the Holden SS Thunder Ute is a 4th generation Holden V8 engine more commonly known as an LS2 from Chevrolet. The 6.0L V8 was the same as in the normal SS Ute, which made 348 hp with 510 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm.
