Juha Kankkunen was born in 1959 in Laukaa, in central Finland, and learned to drive on the family farm. He started competing at eighteen, and in 1985, on his first visit to Africa, he won the Safari Rally for Toyota.
In 1986 he joined Peugeot and won the world title in the 205 T16, in the final and most violent year of Group B. The next year he won again with Lancia in the Delta, becoming the first driver to take back-to-back titles, and with different manufacturers.
He won the title twice more — in 1991 with the Lancia Delta Integrale and in 1993 with the Toyota Celica — making him the first driver to be world champion four times, and the first to do it with three different makes. He won twenty-three world championship rallies in all.
In between, in 1988, he won the Paris–Dakar Rally for Peugeot. Much later he set speed records on ice with a Bentley Continental GT, the second time at over 330 km/h on a frozen sea in Finland.
The Peugeot 205 T16 and the Lancia Delta Integrale in this catalogue are the road cars of two of his championship winners.
